The 5-Day Marangu Route is the shortest and most traditional itinerary for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the "Coca-Cola Route," it is the only route that uses mountain huts instead of tents, providing a more comfortable trekking experience.

The route approaches Kilimanjaro from the southeastern side and follows a gradual path through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and the summit zone. Because of its shorter duration, the 5-day itinerary requires a faster ascent with less time for acclimatization compared with longer routes.

This route is best suited for climbers with good fitness, previous high-altitude trekking experience, or limited time. For first-time climbers, the 6-day Marangu Route is generally recommended because of the extra acclimatization day.

It is possible for beginners with good fitness, but the short acclimatization period makes it more challenging. The 6-day Marangu Route is better for first-time climbers.

The nickname comes from its historic popularity, comfortable hut accommodation, and reputation as a more straightforward route

The success rate is lower than longer routes, usually around 60–70%, because climbers have less time to adapt to altitude.

No. The Marangu Route uses shared mountain huts with beds and basic facilities.

It is often considered the easiest in terms of trail conditions, but altitude still makes it a serious challenge.

The summit day from Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak is the most demanding because of altitude, cold temperatures, and the long distance.
